1. Verify the coolant connector ports are clean and free of any dried Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) crystals.
2. Install the new coolant connector fitting (2) into the DEF pump module (4).
3. Install the retaining screw (1). Torque to 6.5 N·m (4.8 lb·ft).
Removal of the Diesel Exhaust Fluid Pump Module Filter
1. Shut off engine and apply the parking brake, chock the wheels, and perform any other applicable safety
steps.
2. Disconnect the batteries. Refer to OEM procedures.
3. Remove the bolts fastening the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) pump cover to the mounting bracket and
remove cover.
4. Turning counterclockwise, unscrew and remove the DEF pump filter cap (5) from the DEF pump module.
5. Remove the frost compensation membrane (4) from the pump housing.
6. Remove the filter cartridge (3) from the pump by slightly turning and pulling the cartridge.
Inspection of the Diesel Exhaust Fluid Pump Module Filter
Inspect as follows:
1. Inspect the DEF pump filter for signs of debris. Clean or replace as needed.
2. Inspect the DEF pump filter for physical damage. Replace as needed.
3. Inspect the DEF pump filter frost compensation membrane (2) for damage, turning it inside out to identify
tears. If damage is present, the membrane and DEF pump filter kit should be replaced
Installation of the Diesel Exhaust Fluid Pump Module Filter
NOTICE
Do NOT lubricate the cartridge O-ring with the supplied Biolube; see right side of image
below.
1. Install the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) filter cartridge by twisting and pushing the cartridge over the
aluminum pump bolt in the pump housing; see left side of image below.
2. Install the DEF frost compensation membrane over the filter cartridge; verify the sealing bead of the frost
compensation membrane is fully seated in the pump housing groove.
3. Lubricate the sealing bead of the frost compensation membrane with the supplied Biolube.
4. Lubricate the threads on the DEF pump or filter housing with Biolube.
NOTICE
Make sure O-ring sealing surface is clean and verify O-ring is not pinched after
installation of DEF filter cap.
5. Install DEF filter cap and cap O-ring to the DEF pump module, turning clockwise. Torque to 80 N·m (59
lb·ft).
Note : If air pressure is greater than 620 kPa (90 psi), use a pressure regulator.
6. Using a rubber tipped air gun to seal around the DEF pump inlet fitting, apply clean regulated shop air to
the DEF pump inlet fitting (1) for three to five seconds.
7. Install the DEF pump cover to the mounting bracket; torque the bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb·ft).
8. Connect the batteries.
9. Using DiagnosticLink , perform an ADS Priming Function to prime the DEF system and check for leaks.
