Description and Operation of the Hydrocarbon Fuel Doser
Injector Valve

The Hydrocarbon (HC) Fuel Doser Injector Valve (FDV) is mounted in the exhaust pipe that is mounted to the
turbocharger or the Axial Power Turbine (APT). Fuel injected from the FDV will atomize with the exhaust gases
across the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) to create the heat required to regenerate the Diesel Particulate Filter
(DPF).

Removal of the Hydrocarbon Fuel Doser Injector Valve

1. Shut off engine and apply the parking brake, chock the wheels, and perform any other applicable safety
steps.
2. Disconnect the batteries. Refer to OEM procedures.
3. Remove the protection cover (1) for the Hydrocarbon (HC) fuel doser injector valve, if equipped.
4. Disconnect the HC fuel doser supply line (1) from the HC fuel doser injector valve. Hold the HC fuel doser
injector valve with a wrench when loosening the line.
Note : Use care not to bend the fuel line during injection valve removal.
5. Remove the HC fuel doser injector valve (1) from the housing.

Installation of the Hydrocarbon Fuel Doser Injector Valve

NOTICE
Do not use a hard bristle brush as it could damage the seat.
1. Clean the Hydrocarbon (HC) fuel doser housing injector valve seat with a suitable brush, taking care not to
damage the seat.
2. Install the HC fuel doser injector valve (1) into the doser housing and torque to 20 N·m (14 lb·ft).
3. Install the fuel line (1) onto the HC fuel doser injector valve and torque the line to 18 N·m (13 lb·ft). Hold the
HC fuel doser injector valve with a wrench while torquing.
4. Install the protective cover (1) (if equipped).
5. Connect the batteries. Refer to OEM procedures.
6. Start the engine.
Note : It may take more than one purge attempt to completely purge all of the air from the fuel line. Do not exceed
three purge attempts.
7. Perform a Fuel Doser Purge service routine using DiagnosticLink®. Use the HC Doser command to run the
purge function in DiagnosticLink® to purge all the air from the HC fuel doser valve and line.
8. Check for any leaks.
9. Perform a Parked Regeneration.
